More about Montenegro and KotorArt Festival
Lord Byron once said: Montenegrin coastline is the most beautiful encounter between land and sea, and nowhere is a more perfect expression of this, than Boka Bay – the Jewel of the Mediterranean.
The Boka Bay, described as Europe’s southernmost fjord, embodies the beauty, culture, and history of Montenegro, a country renowned for its stunning coastline, beaches, national parks, rich cultural heritage, exquisite cuisine, and fine wines.
The enchanting and breathtaking beauty of Boka Bay is characterized by the striking contrast of the blue sea and rugged, gray, steep mountains, as well as the gentle, green hills. he bay’s natural contrasts of colors, combined with its remarkable heritage, intriguing history, and welcoming people, make it truly unique.
All along the coast, visitors can explore walled cities along the coast, ancient villages perched on hill slopes, bell towers, fortifications, islands and holy sites. Boka Bay is rightfully included in the list of the world’s 28 most beautiful bays and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. Within the bay lies the magical, centuries-old City of Kotor, which has been a top destination on many international travel lists, including Lonely Planet’s.
Around the Boka Bay and within this marvelous Old Town, KotorArt International Festival has been creating unique cultural programs and coloring every summer with music for more than twenty years. Under the patronage of UNESCO, the Government of Montenegro, and the City of Kotor, and with support of a myriad of international cultural foundations, Embassies, and other partners, KotorArt is growing into one of the leading arts festivals in this region and the rest of Europe. Building on over ten years of cultural diplomacy projects realized within the Sister City framework between Kotor, Montenegro and Santa Barbara, California, USA, the festival team has established the charitable ME&US Foundation in the USA, with the aim of fostering stronger connections between the people of Montenegro and the United States.
In addition to the enchanting Kotor and breathtaking Boka Bay, Montenegro boasts stunning natural beauty, with towering mountains, rivers, and lakes that offer a playground for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can indulge in luxury spas and beautiful beaches, as well as hiking, biking, river rafting, canyoning, or simply experiencing the “Wild Beauty,” the country’s official tourism motto.
